Kaleidoscope Updates!

Hi Everyone,

I've got a lot of catching up to do on this blog... life has been hectic, a lot of changes are happening recently.  They are all working out positively but have kept me hopping these past few weeks!

I will be posting some info and pics from our Blue Jays appearance on August 20th.  We are gearing up for the Fall and hope to do a mini tour in Ontario as our next project.

I will be postponing the Eastern leg of our journey as there have some been some recent family developments.  My father had a stroke and I'm trying to help Mom & Dad as much as possible.  The prognosis is good, but he has a long road of rehab and physio ahead of him.  My Mom doesn't drive so they will need me to be close by and help out during the rehab process (plus they are my main supports for Sara).  So I've been trying to juggle all of those elements (my regular family life, the sale of my house and fall lesson season) around these past couple of weeks.

I am working on some appreciation posters and items for supporters and sponsors of the Western Kaleidoscope Tour.  They should be completed this weekend and will be sent out next week.  I would also like to hold an open house in Seaforth for people to drop by, hear about the tour and see pictures of our adventures.  I'm waiting to get a better idea of my schedule - but will book that in early October.

Thanks to everyone for all of your support and enthusiasm for our project and Tour!

hugs,

Kim & Sara

KiSara appearance on 104.9 The Beach Radio Station - Goderich, Ontario

Hi Everyone,

Carolyn M. Parks invited Sara and I back to her show on 104.9 The Beach www.104.9thebeach.ca (we appeared there just before the tour) to talk about our trip out West and Autism awareness.

100_0326

Carolyn had some great questions and Sara enjoyed the chance to talk about the trip.  Some interesting tidbits that Carolyn brought out in the interview...

How did we stay entertained during all of the long hours in the van...
Sara had her collection of movies and portable dvd player (well a small portion of 20 or so anyways 80), her ipod and a few books that she likes to look through.  We all talked and joked about things and had a few competitions (what colour the 50th car that passed us would be ...etc...).  Ryan and Talia had their mp3 players and lots of travel activities (including a dvd player).  We all really enjoyed the scenery... plus we napped a lot (except the driver of course!).

What was our purpose...
To give families a lift, create more Autism awareness and celebrate gifts, talents and "Possibilities".  Many of the responses to our performances demonstrate that our message was well received.

What are we doing now...
Building towards the Eastern segment of the tour .. which will be this October.. and performing in some Ontario locations... including a Blue Jays Game (vs the Yankees) at the Rogers Center this Wednesday.  Working on more resources (including web based materials) for families... finalizing our new cds production.. (which includes Over The Rainbow, Wonderful World and a couple of original songs) ..

What were the highlights...
For Sara the scenery.. especially the Rockies were a big one... the adventure of traveling and seeing new places

What was the traveling like...
Amazing and fun... we had a great team along with us for the tour who all had fun and appreciated the chance to travel... Sara loved the travel time too .. and when asked by Carolyn couldn't think of anything about the traveling that bothered her!  Me either... it was a once in a lifetime journey for all of us!

I'll post some pics and updates from the Blue Jays Game later this week.

Thanks to Carolyn and 104.9 The Beach for the opportunity to talk about our project and the Western portion of our tour!  It's always fun dropping by to chat at the station!

If anyone has any questions or stories to add to our blog you can contact us at info@heartfeltmusic.ca

Hope everyone is enjoying this great blast of summer weather!

Kaleidoscope Ride continues in Ontario...

Hi Everyone,

Sara and I traveled to Burlington, Ontario this past weekend for another Kaleidoscope Performance!  Both Brian and Rog from our tour crew as well as Roger's daughter Caley (on bass) accompanied us.  I hope to have a few pictures from that show later this week.

It was another terrific performance and wowed our audience with it's energy, music and Sara's talent!

Many people have commented to me throughout the tour about the quality of the performance and power of the music presentation.  We have received many e-mails and comments on the performances, one from someone with a recent diagnosis of Autism - that really show the impact of the message and music.  We wanted to encourage, share and inspire others (both within and outside of the realm of ASD) to build on "possibilities", talents and gifts.  We also wanted to provide an opportunity for families and individuals to celebrate their many gifts and abilities.

Thank you to those who have shared those experiences and stories with us!  We'd love to hear more stories and impressions from those that have attended our performances or listened to our music and project message.  We learn from your journey as well.  It never fails to amaze me how families and individuals find ways to focus on the positives and build on them.

I'll keep you updated as the next leg of our journey to Eastern Canada develops as well as when our newer cd is available.  There are other materials including my new book "Possibilities" that will be available through our website and at our tour stops.

Sara has been enjoying some relaxation time and unwinding from the tour schedule.  We will be appearing at an upcoming Blue Jays game at the Rogers Center in Toronto on Wednesday, August 20th (vs the Yankees) to sing the National Anthems.  This is a Blue Jays event - Autism Day - so if you're in the region please come out and support this awareness event!  This will be the 5th year that Sara and I have performed at the Blue Jays Autism Day game.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the rest of the summer!  It is going too quickly!

hugs,

Kim

Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay in a day!

We packed off, grabbed lunch (thanks to Community Living Thunder Bay) and headed back on the road to Sault Ste. Marie.

Barb French (Mike, Michaela and Patrick) were all waiting patiently for us to arrive that evening.  We had so much fun visiting during our Sault Ste. Marie performance they invited us back on our return trip.  They have a beautiful cottage house about 1 hour south of Sault Ste. Marie.

Our trip back through the Lake Superior park area was breathtaking!  We were fortunate to see a wonderful sunset over the lake.  We had an adventure in that I didn't realize there would be no gas stations between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie that would be open.  By the time we reached Sault Ste. Marie at 11 pm that night we were running on fumes and placing bets on how far we could go after the gas light came on 80)  Fortunately we made it to the outskirts of the Soo and gassed up to go meet Barb and her daughter Michaela close to their cottage near Thessalon, ON.  It was pretty close to 1 pm or later by the time we had arrived - thanks so much to Barb and her family for waiting for us, guiding us and providing us with a place to sleep that evening.

We enjoyed chatting with everyone and exploring their beautiful lake cottage (stars were amazing down by the water).  Barb, Michaela, Sara and I were the night hawks (chatting and laughing) and finally climbed into bed sometime after 2 am!

The next day we were up early (7 am or so yikes!) and off to the races again ... loaded up with great coffee (courtesy of Barb) and some fresh fruit.  We headed into Lively, ON (right beside Sudbury) for our final tour performance which was being hosted by Community Living Greater Sudbury.

We had a bit of confusion finding the Kinsmen Hall but after a quick phone call sorted out the location of the hall.  Cathy Oja was our contact for the event and completely spoiled us with food, media connections, help with gear and hospitality.  They have a wonderful hall (called Our Friendship Centre) and it soon became packed with one of the most enthusiastic audiences of our tour!

Sara, I and the tour team had a ball - the concert was our best yet and we enjoyed meeting everyone afterwards.  There were some great media opportunities presented - I will post the article links on the blog when I track them down!

We were all exhilarated to end the tour on such a high note and everyone was grinning ear to ear as we packed up the trailer for the last time!

We decided to make the final trek home that day - as our performances were over and everyone was missing their family and own beds!   Not to mention the tons of laundry in our suitcases and dreams of home cooked meals!

The trip was quick - we were really fortunate to have great weather during most of our travels and before we knew it we were dropping off our tour team one by one!  Everyone agreed that it was a high point of their summer!

Sara and I want to send a big thank you out to everyone who followed and supported us on our Kaleidoscope Ride.  We are incredibly grateful to our tour team for contributing their talent and a good portion of their summer to the tour (and to their families!).  So many people, businesses and groups supported us in our fundraising and dream of the tour - we were very fortunate to have so many who believed in our vision and message!   A big thank you also goes out to Laurie Mawlam of Autism Canada and volunteer Jim Reed who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of this tour.

We are receiving a lot of feedback on the tour, our music and the many people we were fortunate to meet during our journey.

We are now building toward the Eastern segment of the tour - I will keep everyone updated as this develops.  We have a few Ontario performances during August (including the Blue Jays game - woohoo!) that I will post as they occur.

I'll be sure to keep everyone updated!  Thanks for your comments and interest in our project and tour!  Feel free to send us blog comments, questions or ideas!
