Our second performance in B.C. was a Castlegar, which is nestled right into the mountains of Southern B.C.
We thought we'd tackled some pretty high passes on our way to Vancouver (or ummm really Brian did .. having had more experience with trailers and how to handle the hills - thanks Brian!)... one pass on the Coquahala was over a kilometre drop on the way down (my ears are still popping 80) but we went through two passes one over 1,500 metres and another over 1,800 metres (just after Castlegar). Really breathtaking views from both the hills and valleys of that part of our trip.
Here are some pics of the scenery on our way to Castlegar.

Alas our search for the elusive Mountain sheep or goat... was about as successful as our search for the Prairie Dog! We did have quite a debate about trees and different regions (including a dessert like region).
It must be pretty tricky on some of these hills in the winter - but what beautiful settings. Sara was very impressed with all of the mountains.

We arrived in Castlegar and were fortunate to be offered accommodations with Karina & Jim Allis (Karina works for Kootenay Community Living - who was our host for the performance) and their daughter Arija. They were a wonderful family and we all enjoyed getting to know them and visiting their home which was snuggled up against the hills (Brian and Ryan even did some climbing that next morning before our performance!).
This is a picture of the hills surrounding their home and a beautiful sunset that evening! There was a forest fire many miles away which reminded us of all of the B.C. forests and the many firefighters who work there each summer to save forest regions and communities from the many fires each summer.
Ryan and Talia enjoy some fun by the river!
Sara enjoying a walk out front!

Karina, Jim and Arija - thanks so much for your hospitality. They treated us to supper and we enjoyed great conversation, stories and shared experiences. Thanks to Karina for her wonderful gift (a special book) given to Sara. She hasn't let it leave her side since we headed back to Ontario!
Ryan's magic rock trick!
We headed off to the concert shortly after - and enjoyed another opportunity to meet more families, share our music and celebrate possibilities!
We had some great conversations and enjoyed meeting the many people in the audience!
Thanks Castlegar!
